Louise Charlotte Schreiter Krechel, 97, of Murrells Inlet, SC died peacefully at her home on Sunday April 7, 2024. She was surrounded by family members. Born in Summit Lawn, Pennsylvania at the home of her grandparents on January 19,1927, she was the only child of Arnold G. Schreiter and Rachel Groman Schreiter. She attended the Lehigh Valley Conservatory of Music where she became a trained singer. She sang on the radio, at weddings, hospitals and various public events. In 1942 when she was 15 years old she became a switch board operator for Bell Telephone and worked in the Lehigh Valley. After graduating from Fountain Hill High School in 1944, Bell Telephone then sent her to the Poconos and to the newly built Fort Indiantown Gap Military Depot. During this time she met Joshua Krechel. Over distance and time their friendship turned into a romance that lasted 66 years. Louise married her Merchant Marine officer, Josh, in 1947. They had their first son, Glenn, in 1948. They relocated to Milford, New Jersey in 1952. There their second son, Scott, was born in 1954. Louise was an exceptional housewife. She loved experimenting with new recipes. She had no peers when it came to entertaining. She would open their home each Christmas for elaborate parties. She was a member of Oak Hill Golf Course, the Milford Women's Club various bridge clubs and served on the altar guild of St. Peters' Lutheran church in Riegelsville, Pa. She led a full life but deep down she was bored and still a career woman at heart. When a friend offered her a job selling real estate she studied and passed her New Jersey real estate exam in 1966. She sold for Sig Kuhne real estate in Milford, NJ and later for Weichert in Phillipsburg, NJ before retiring to Murrells Inlet in 1992. Louise loved history and took several classes at Coastal Carolina University. She began volunteering at Brookgreen Gardens. Every Friday for 27 years Louise was at the Low Country center, entertaining visitors with facts and history. She was a member of the Indigo Creek Ladies League and the South Strand Antiques Association. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Family always came first above her other endeavors. She was a proud cradle Lutheran and member of St. Peter's in Pawleys Island. Survivors, 2 sons, Glenn R. Krechel and wife Grace Ellen of Pawleys Island, and Scott J. Krechel and wife Michele of Murrells Inlet. 5 grandchildren, Gretchen Krechel Moore of Georgetown, SC, Joshua R. Krechel of Vergennes, VT, Forrest Krechel of Pawleys Island, Noah Krechel of Murrells Inlet and Lauren Krechel of Piedmont, SC and eight great grand children. The family wishes to recognize the support of Right at Home and LifeCare Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pawleys Island on Saturday April 13th at 2:00 PM.
