Tributes

Mary “Marybeth” Mabry, age 77, wife of Percy Lemar Mabry, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023. Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Waymon Foster and Sally Elizabeth Barham Foster. She and their family moved to Surfside Beach in 1977 where she and her husband resided until August of 2022 when they moved to Pawleys Island. While living in Surfside Beach, Marybeth served on Surfside Beach Town Council from 2012 to 2016, also as Mayor Pro-Tem during that time. She was the first spouse of a former Council person to be elected to serve. In addition to her work on Council, she was extremely active in the work of the Historical Society, serving as their Council Liaison. She was always service and community oriented. As a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, she fought tirelessly to keep our environment safe and clean for future generations. She was also a dedicated mental health advocate. Her family and her faith, however, were most important to her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was so proud of her family and the wonderful young people of faith they had become. Beautiful both inside and out, she was a Christian, giving, kind, and gracious, always putting others first. She is survived by her adored and adoring husband PL, sons James Eric Holder (Theresa) of Fort Mill, SC; Jody Holder of Myrtle Beach, SC; Michael Scott Holder (Mindy) of Wilmington, NC; and daughter Allison Holder Gizzi of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also surviving are her brothers Robert Martin, Pete Foster (Cheryl), and Michael Foster; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Kylie. She also leaves behind her precious Book Club sisters, her “bonus daughter” Sabrina Adair (John), and her best friend in life Marie Stowe. She loved them all without reservation, as they loved her. A Celebration of Life Service for Marybeth will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, with a reception to follow. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, is assisting the family.
