Melvin Farnaby

Melvin Farnaby, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away early Saturday morning August 25th, 2018, surrounded by close family and friends. Melvin was born December 12, 1944 in Lossiemouth, Scotland to Vera and Robert Henry Farnaby where the family was stationed with The Royal Air Force. He then moved back to England to his hometown of Hurworth-On-Tees. After high school he served his apprenticeship as a toolmaker with Darlington Forge and then began his hard-working career as an Engineer at Cummins Engine Company in Darlington, England. Melvin married the love of his life Carol Hall (Farnaby) in 1966, from the town of Darlington. They immigrated to the United States in 1968 with their infant son, Grant, and Melvin was able to start an even better life with his new family and they later became American Citizens. Their family grew when their daughter Sarah arrived in 1976. Melvin then continued in building his career by working for Cummins Engine Company in various states across the US. In 1985 Melvin entered into his own business, Systems Technology, Inc. (STI) where he, with his hard working and dedicated team, became a stronghold in engineering design, development, and manufacturing and STI continues to this day. When Melvin was not working in the machine shops or behind the design screens he often found himself over the years adventuring in flying planes, boating, and most recently rebuilding classic cars from the ground up if he wasn’t helping a friend or taking care of his family’s needs. Melvin was a kind, generous, and loving family man who is loved by many. Melvin is survived by his two children: Grant Farnaby, and his wife Barbara, and Sarah Farnaby; two grandchildren, Kirstie Farnaby and Madison Calder, his siblings Barbara Bell of Darlington, England and Christopher Farnaby of Essex, England, along with several wonderful and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Robert Henry Farnaby, and his brother-in-law Peter Bell. Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel 11528 Highway 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet, SC with Chaplain Michael Romano officiating. The entombment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to service at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel Celebration Center.
