Mr. Michael J. Gutsick, 75, husband of Alexis Gutsick, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Conway Medical Center following a sudden onset illness. Born July 26, 1949, in the small mining town of Coaldale, PA, he was the son of Joseph Stanley Gutsick Sr. and the late Cecelia F. Conahan Gutsick. As a child, he moved with his family from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, where he resided until his retirement; he and his wife moved to Conway in 2016. After serving as a certified public accountant at a then-Big 6 accounting firm, Mr. Gutsick had a decades-long career in the investment and financial industry as a comptroller. Outside of his work, he was a "Renaissance man"-a gifted artist and craftsman whose interests and expertise included painting, calligraphy, photography, and sewing/weaving, as well as model ship building, for which he won awards and was known for his meticulous attention to detail. He also was an expert in carpentry and woodworking, from wood carving (his carved Santas were a favorite), to furniture-building. An avid reader and history buff with a particular interest in the Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II eras, he enjoyed traveling to historical sites throughout the country, including in his native New Jersey, and shared this enthusiasm with his family. He was, above all, a devoted husband and father. Mr. Gutsick was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Conway, where he was a dedicated volunteer who enjoyed devoting his time and services to the church. In addition to his mother, Michael was predeceased by his brother, Joseph S. Gutsick Jr. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Alexis Messeroll Gutsick of Conway; his father, Joseph Stanley Gutsick of Florence; his children, Beth-Ann Kerber and her husband, John, of Freehold, NJ, Joseph Gutsick and his wife, Teresa, of Reston, VA, Carolyn Gutsick and her partner, David, of Portland, OR, and Michele Dailey and her husband, Sean, of Burlington, VT; his brother, Patrick Gutsick and his wife Anne of Somerset, NJ; his sister, Anne Gutsick-Smith and her husband, Ralph, of Florence, SC; his sisters-in-law, Kathryn Eichert and her husband, Joe, Mary Stabile, and JoAnn Miller and her husband, Allen; his grandchildren, Sara, Daniel, Ryan, Grayson, and Finnegan; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church. Inurnment will immediately follow at the Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends in the Narthex one hour prior to the Mass.
