Mickie Marie Singleton, age 76, of Socastee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Mickie was born in Conway, SC on July 27, 1946 to the late William James Singleton and Alice (Watts) Singleton. She was a graduate of Socastee High School, where she excelled academically and played basketball. After high school, Mickie attended the University of South Carolina, where she graduated with a bachelor’s and then a master’s degree in Education. After earning her degrees, Mickie returned to Socastee High School and dedicated the next 32 years of her life to teaching young people Government and Economics. During her time teaching, she enjoyed being an advisor for extracurricular activities, including acting as a chaperone for senior trips to locations including Spain, Mexico, and the Bahamas. She also chaperoned French club trips to Canada and enjoyed the opportunity to practice speaking French. She loved running into former students and hearing about their lives. Mickie was an avid fan of all types of sports, particularly tennis. She especially loved spending time with her nieces Lyndsay and Hayley Musgrave at gymnastics events. She was very generous with her time and affection, and basked in the joy that giving to others brought. In addition to her parents, Mickie was preceded in death by her three brothers, William Jack Singleton (Linda), Cecil Wyatt Singleton, and Kenny Douglas Singleton, Sr. She is survived by her sister, Bessie Alice Duncan (Lamar), her sisters-in-law Margie Singleton and Doris Singleton, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved us all. Her nephew, Kenny Douglas Singleton, Jr. (Delan), was particularly special to her. She treated him like a son and adored his children, and they each loved her right back. Friends and family are invited to call upon the Singleton family on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Socastee United Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 PM, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM.
