Mildred Case Holmes, 94, of Little River and Darlington, SC, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016. She was born August 20, 1922, in Chadbourn, NC, to the late Homer and Mollie Edge Case. As a young child, she moved with her family to North Myrtle Beach, SC, where she lived much of her life. She is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Henry H. Holmes, her brothers Dwight Case and Isaac Case, and her sister Mary Case Stanaland. Mildred earned a teaching degree from Spartanburg Junior (Textile) College and enjoyed a 35-year teaching career in the Conway, SC, schools. She and her husband Henry made Conway and Little River their homes until they moved to Bethea Baptist Retirement Community in Darlington in 2003. Known affectionately as Mama Holmes by her family and Ms. Millie at Bethea Home, she is survived by her daughter, Iris (Steve) Baston, grandchildren Kerri (Matt) Ray, Matt (Lauren) Baston, Kimberly (Tom) Walsh, great grandsons Case, Tanner, and Quintin Ray, and great granddaughters Ryan Baston and soon-to-be Little Miss Millie Blake Baston. Millie had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was well known for her passionate belief in the power of prayer, having helped organize a devoted team of resident prayer warriors that meet three times a week in the Bethea Home nursing care center. She also had a passion for giving "to the Lord's work" and generously contributed to many worldwide Christ-centered ministries throughout her lifetime. She will be greatly missed by many. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM-2:30PM Sunday, October 30, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway, SC, with a graveside service to follow at 3:00PM at Grainger Cemetery in the Red Bluff community north of Conway. A memorial service to honor her life will also be held at 11:00AM Monday, October 31, 2016 in the chapel of Bethea Baptist Retirement Community in Darlington.
