Surfside Beach Paul H. Hawley, Jr., age 90 beloved husband of the late Anne H. Hawley, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Mr. Hawley was born September 12, 1924 in Torrington, CT., the son of the late Paul H. Hawley Sr. and Hildreth Keeler Hawley. He was also the stepson of the late Gladys P. Hawley. Paul served in the U.S. Navy (Lt) as a blimp "Lighter than Air" navigator/pilot during WWII, covering convoys from Key West FL. to Brazil. After his service he attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Civil Engineering, working in construction for most of his life, eventually becoming Executive Vice President of Bartlett, Brainard & Eacott until his retirement in 1989. He was also a mediator for CT Laborers and Carpenters Pension Funds. During his lifetime, he was active in his Church, in Scouting, achieving the Silver Beaver award, president of the Community Chest (United Way of Northwest CT), A Red Cross volunteer, and a devoted and dedicated member of the VFW Post 10420 in Murrells Inlet, SC. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, tennis, Bridge and Cribbage. His passion was his work on his computer whether it be family and friends' genealogies, VFW and HOA record keeping and bookkeeping, or his favorite pastimes "Solitaire" and "Sudoku". Whenever it snowed in CT, Dad would declare "Party Time!" He and Mom really enjoyed traveling, dancing and hosting some of the most wonderful "Parties". His family will cherish the great memories of the life that we celebrated with him. Love you Dad. Paul is survived by his son, Paul H. Hawley III and his wife Cindy of Berlin, CT., and his daughters Susan Anne Novak and her husband John R. III of Surfside Beach and Patricia Lee Marciano and her husband Charles L. of Torrington, CT; sister, Mary H. Eller of Torrington, CT; five grandchildren, John Novak IV and wife Kristin, Christopher Novak, LeeAnne Marciano, Martha Anne Noonan and husband Brendan, and Philip Hawley and friend Nicole Gagnon, and 4 great grandchildren, John R. V, Amelia Joan, and Katelyn Elizabeth Novak, and Declan Hawley Noonan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers: Bobby Leahy, Judy Reynolds, and Martina "Andie" Seifert. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on July 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Goldfinch Funeral Home, 11528 Highway 17 Bypass Murrells Inlet, SC.
