Raymond ("Scudd") George Colbath, age 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, November, 14, 2015, at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Ray was born in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late John and Emma Colbath. Ray was a graduate of Snyder High School, Jersey City, NJ. He lived in East Rutherford, NJ along with his loving wife Lois raising their four daughters. He worked as a truck driver for Safeway Stores and a dispatcher for Chemical Lehman Trucking Company until they retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1988. Ray enjoyed being active and achieved many athletic accolades. He was the Captain of both his High School baseball and basketball teams and continued playing semi professional baseball for the Hudson County League. He was the President of East Rutherford Recreation Committee, in addition to being the Founder (President) of the East Rutherford Girls Softball league for 12 Years. In retirement he continued to stay heavily involved in the sporting community. He acted as President of the Myrtle Beach All Stars Golf Association for eight years, as well as President of the Myrtlewood Seniors Golf League. Scudd also remained active playing senior Softball until 1995. He was an avid golfer, reader and active parishioner at St. Andrews Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching all college and professional sports, Duke basketball being his favorite. While he enjoyed participating in many sports, he was the biggest fan and supporter of his four children and eleven grandchildren's favorite activities. Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His greatest love in life was to spend time his wife and family. Ray is preceded by his wife Lois of 67 years, and two brothers John and Charles Colbath. He is survived by his sister June Herrmann of Lyndhurst, NJ, four daughters; Sharon Catanzaro (Ben) of Pawleys Island, SC ; Judy Papa (Keith) of Rutherford, NJ; Barbara Cocozzo (Philip) and Patti Ravettine (Edward) both of East Rutherford, NJ. Ray and Lois's eleven grandchildren: Dana Masters, Ryan Hadrava, Jeff Catanzaro, Jaime Gentry, Steven Catanzaro, Philip Cocozzo, Keith Papa, Nikki Papa, Daryl Cocozzo, Dylan Cocozzo and Amy Rae Ravettine and six great grandchildren, Jackson Masters, Erik Catanzaro, Davis Catanzaro, Autumn Papa, Olivia Hadrava and Tyson Gentry. An informal memorial service and reception to follow will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel: 11528 Hwy. 17 Bypass Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 for family members and friends.
