Conway.... Daniel McDade Cathey February 2, 1940 - July 17, 2008 68yrs Together again with the greatest woman who ever lived, his wife Mary Naomi Milligan Cathey, deceased May 23, 2003. He had the priviledge of being husband. He was born in Sylva, NC on February 2, 1940 to the late Mr. & Mrs. William and Ruth Cathey. Dan died of cancer in his daughter's Belinda home in Ohio. His work on earth for our Lord Jesus is complete. He is survived by his children; Dana Rushing, Belinda & Bob Miller, Benita & Mike Fager, and Samuel & Carmen Cathey, and grandchildren, Owen Searcy, Gary Lee and Mary Noelle Miller, John Michael and Hannah LaNae Fager, Samantha Allyse, Joel William and Rachel Naomi Cathey. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Cathey and his wife, Delores, and their daughters; Michelle & Steve Logan, and Marti Cathey, and sister-in-law, Ann Cathey, and her children, Brenda Pron, Chuck, and Billy Cathey. Dan was first and foremost a servant of the Lord Jesus, serving Him until his last days. Affectionately known as "Brother Dan" or "Preacher Dan", everyone who was in his presence was asked two questions, "Do you mind if I get personal with you?..What is your relationship with Jesus?" Those who know and love him, know that he wanted everyone to know Jesus real and personal. Dad graduated from Capitol Page School in Washington, DC, and was a veteran who served our country as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Air Force. He retired from the federal government from the office of the First Deputy Clerk of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, DC when he was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 1985. Then God called him into full-time ministry; administrator at Icthus Ministries Bryson City, NC, pastor of Alarka Missionary Baptist Church Bryson City, NC, Deaf Mission Greenville, SC, Dogwood Hill Baptist Church Loris, SC, and Hickory Grove Baptist Church Conway, SC, ministry at Conway Adult Day Care, Agape Senior Center Jordan Nursing Home, Poston Deaf Ministry, Soldier Bay Deaf Ministry and Street Reach Mission in Myrtle Beach, SC, and many other God-given chores. Viewing will be held at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, SC on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery on Hwy. 905, Conway, SC followed by a "Home-Going Celebration" at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Fellowship Hall to celebrate the reunion with his wife and Savior Jesus Christ. Please join us in sharing testimony and song of how Jesus used His servant, Dan, to touch your life. Please wear blue, his favorite color, in his honor.
