Robert B. Harrell, Bert was called to his Heavenly home February 5th, 2024. Bert was born in Rocky Mount, NC, son of the late Herman Randolph and Hazel Irene Wells Harrell. Surviving are a devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Janice Ladd Harrell; a son, Robert Harrell, Jr., (Joanne); a granddaughter, Crissenda Harrell; a brother, Louis Ezzelle (Barbara); his nieces, Brittany Ladd, Amy Hasick, and Gwen Ezzelle Vick; and his nephews, Derek Ladd, Frank Ethridge, and Curtis Ezzelle. He was predeceased by his brother, Dale Carson Harrell, and his sisters, Mary Ann Harrell Ethridge and Zelma Height. Bert proudly served in the USAF from 1964 to 1968. He retired from GE following 26 years of service as a dedicated and experienced field engineer. His work with GE provided opportunities to see almost every state in the union, always returning home to friends and family. Bert's love for Christ was evident in all he did for others. He was a charter member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Lake Wylie SC. He was a member of the praise and worship team. He warmly welcomed everyone to the church with a crooked smile and a quick laugh. Sharing the gospel with the youth, Bert also served with the Horry County and Georgetown Salkehatchie summer youth program. He continued his worship and service to the Lord at Trinity United Methodist Church including the Joy Sunday School Class in Conway, SC. Bert's love of water and boats meant most warm days you could find him on the waters at Lake Wylie and later, cruising down the Waccamaw river in Conway, SC. When he wasn't boating or fishing, he could be found in his shop tinkering. If there was a tool to have, Bert had it and with him; could fix or build most anything. Grumps, as his granddaughter affectionately called him, was a kid at heart. Enjoying the rides at Carowinds, Disney or local county and state fairs. Like most kids, Bert loved his "big boy toys." One of his favorites was the Hatteress, he bought and spent many adventurous and fun-filled hours with friends and family cruising the Intercoastal Waterway. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday March 16, 2024 at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Lake Wylie, SC with Rev. Randy Madsen officiating. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway with Rev. Bill McCown officiating.
