Pawleys Island Rocco Olivieri, age 92, proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away quietly in his home on Monday, November 26, 2012. Born October 18, 1920 in San Vito (CH), Italy he was a son of the late Angelo Olivieri and Anna DeNardis. Mr. Olivieri moved to S.C. with his late wife, Maria from Clifton, N.J. in 1981 after retiring from a distinguished electrical engineering career, he worked as a group supervisor as an electrical engineer designing small motors for the aerospace industry. His many design projects included the motor for the robot arm of the space shuttle and the fuel cell for Apollo spacecrafts. Mr. Olivieri's education began at the University of Genova in Genova, Italy where he graduated as an electrical engineer. Later he married Maria DiIorio and the couple moved from Italy to the U.S. They first settled in Euclid, O.H. where Rocco attended Case Western Reserve and then worked for Reliance Electric Company, for several years before beginning his electrical engineering career in N. J. Rocco Olivieri dearly loved the local community in Pawleys Island. He also enjoyed its natural beauty, often stating that it reminded him of his fishing village on the Adriatic Sea in Italy. Mr. Olivieri was a member of Precious Blood of Christ, Young 80's Breakfast Club, volunteering endeavors and hobbies such as playing chess, swimming and traveling. Rocco leaves his four children; Angelo Olivieri (Nancy) Saylorsburg, PA, Anna Hungler (John) of Pawleys Island, S.C., Aurora Olivieri (Manuel Insighares) of NY, N.Y. and David Olivieri (Mary) of Demarest, N.J., grandchildren; Nicole Falk (Daniel) Shannon, Johna and Mathias Hungler, Anthony Olivieri (Dana) Maria and Kevin Olivieri, Elias and Blaise Insignares and great grandson; Benjamin Falk. In lieu of flowers donations to the Hospice Care of S.C. 110 Dillon Dr. Spartanburg, SC 29307and Georgetown County Council of Ageing 2104 Lincoln St. Georgetown, SC 29440. The family will receive friends Friday, November 30, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield Pawleys Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. An online guestbook is available at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com.
