Rupert M. Stalvey, 91, of Conway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, with his son by his side. Born on June 15, 1933, Rupert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his kind spirit and unwavering dedication to his family. Rupert was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Ann Long Stalvey, whom he married on June 24, 1958. Mary Ann described Rupert as her "lifelong blessing," her "partner, love, enabler, and friend." It is with heartfelt gratitude for God's mercy and love that Rupert has now joined Mary Ann in God's Garden Triumphant. He is survived by his loving son, R. Miles Stalvey, Jr., his dedicated daughter-in-law, RoxAnn Hodges Stalvey, and his three cherished grandchildren: R. M. "Tradd" Stalvey, III, Lawton Virginia Stalvey, and Ann DuBose Stalvey. They will forever hold dear the guidance and support of "Granddaddy," and the memories of him and "MaeMae" will live on in their hearts. Rupert grew up in Conway as the son of Rupert Irving and Eva Mae Dunn Stalvey. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Stalvey Creel. He is also survived by caring nieces and nephews from both the Long and Creel families. He spent his life surrounded by many friends that were like family. A successful businessman in the Conway area, Rupert built a reputation for integrity and commitment. He served as President of First Southeast Insurance Services (formerly Magrath Insurance Agency). As a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of South Carolina, he served in many capacities including President and Chairman of the State Legislative Committee. He was a member of the board for the South Carolina Insurance Facility and member of Producer-Company Advisory Councils for several national insurance companies. Rupert was a gentleman deeply committed to his community. He served as a deacon, chairman, and treasurer for First Baptist Church of Conway, was a board member and chairman of the Conway Hospital Foundation, was a member of the Conway Hospital Board of Trustees, and served on the boards, often in executive roles, for the Lion's Club, Big Brothers' Organization, Horry Developers, Conway High School Booster Club, South Carolina National Bank Board of Directors, the Conway Zoning and Planning Commission, the Horry County Board of Education, and several other organizations. He was a recipient of the Friend of Education Award from the Horry County Education Association. His fairness, dedication, and genuine nature left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. A service honoring Rupert's life will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2 PM at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway, officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Mary Ann Long Stalvey Scholarship Fund at Conway High School Educational Foundation, PO Box 3073, Conway SC 29526. Rupert will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and service to others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
