Alexandra Love Wilson Johnson Murrells Inlet Family and friends, as well as the Murrells Inlet community, lost a beautiful loved one Sunday morning with the passing of Alexandra Love Wilson Johnson. She was known by her family and friends as Sandra, and affectionately called “Big Mama” by her late husband, Bitsy, because as he would explain, “she’s the boss,” but she was most proud and fond of the name her grandchildren called her, Muzz. Sandra was born December 10th, 1939, and raised in Quincy and Deland, Florida. Her parents were Sara Shaw and Alexander Love Wilson, as well as stepfather Clyde C. Bennett (after the death of her father). After marrying, Sandra and Bitsy made Varnville, South Carolina their home and later moved to Manning, South Carolina before settling in Murrells Inlet in 1988 where they lived in the Live Oaks Community. Sandra was a member of The Church of the Resurrection in Surfside and loved the special relationships she enjoyed with everyone there, especially with Father Ron Greiser. She worked at florists in Hampton and Manning as a bookkeeper and flower arranger and was involved in volunteer work through both the church and community. Among many other attributes, Sandra will be remembered and missed for her sweet smile, her steel-trap mind, and her ability to wrap up any conversation or topic with a concise one-liner. In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her loving husband of 39 ½ years, Emmett E. “Bitsy” Johnson, and her wonderful father-in-law and mother-in-law, Billy and Elizabeth Bowers. Sandra is deeply loved, and will be forever missed, by her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Laura Johnson, and her grandchildren Lyle, Yesica, DaVeed, and Guy. She is survived by her adored sister and brother-in-law, Olive and Roby Robinson; her three beautiful nieces, Sara Robinson, Trigg McLeod, and Eleanore Robinson, as well as their families; and by her caring mother-in-law, Joyce Newman Bowers. Visitation will be held at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Church of the Resurrection in Surfside at 2:00 p.m., followed by the burial at Belin United Methodist Church Cemetery in Murrells Inlet.
