Stephen William Davis October 20, 1951 - September 6, 2021 Stephen (Steve) William Davis was born on Oct 20th, 1951 in Lima Ohio. Steve was the third son born to Maureen T. (McCrate) and John (Jack) J. Davis and was an "Irish twin" with his late brother, Jim (born on the very same day, one year apart). Being third in line had advantages and disadvantages for Steve. He claimed to be strictly relegated to hand-me-down clothes and he quickly learned how to get into mischief without getting caught… most of the time. The teasing, finger-pointing, and laughter of the three oldest boys went on for many years through grade school at St. Mary in Marion, Ohio and until Steve graduated from Pleasant High School in 1969. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps , serving his country for three years. After his military service, Steve enjoyed traveling across the United States, working at various jobs to do so. Steve said he had perfected the art of hitchhiking and claimed to have crossed the U.S. from California to Florida in three days. After settling in Alexandria Virginia, Steve started the Davis Construction Company , a concrete company serving Virginia, Maryland, and the D.C. area. He was not only a boss to his concrete crews, but in many ways, father, brother, and mentor. A kind and generous man, Steve knew the value of hard work and rewarded his employees in multiple ways, from gift baskets to jail bonds. He also paid them to work around his own home during slow times. Steve had a heart of gold and would not only give the shirt off his back, but iron it first. As many weekends as possible, Steve could be found boating on the Chesapeake Bay and socializing with his dock mates during those evenings. Steve also had a life-long love of German Shepherds. He was a true dog whisperer and became self-taught on dog psychology and obedience. One of Steve's Shepherds was an extra on the TV show, The West Wing, portraying a Secret Service Dog protecting the President. Steve was often seen around the Alexandria area riding his Harley with that same dog in his sidecar. Steve retired and moved to Loris, SC, where he enjoyed living the quiet life alongside his canine companions. He continued boating on the Intracoastal Waterways until his health forced him to sell his boat. Steve had an uncanny ability to blend in with any type of crowd or gathering and become the life of the party. While he could hold his own discussing piston ring pressure on a motorcycle engine he could also discuss current events and politics at a formal gathering. His sense of humor and prankster ways brought laughter and joy to those who knew him. Steve is survived by a brother, Tom Davis of Columbus, Ohio; sister Sharon Alexander of Danville, California; brother Lee Davis of Marion, Ohio; and sister Marianne Nelson of Westerville, Ohio. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on October 23rd at Beachwood Villa and Winery in Loris, South Carolina. All are welcome. Semper Fi!
