Timothy L. Skelton August 2, 1962 - February 23, 2016 LOS ANGELES, CA Timothy Lynn Skelton, age 53, passed away peacefully from melanoma at his home in Los Angeles on February 23, 2016 with his mother and sister by his side. Tim was born August 2, 1962 in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lois Freeman Skelton and the late Vadah Skelton. He was a 1979 graduate of Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach SC, received his B.A. from the University of South Carolina in 1991, and operated residential and commercial painting businesses before attending law school. Tim graduated cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1998, where he was a member of the San Diego Law Review and the Order of the Coif, the national honor society for graduates in the top ten percent of their class, and voted USD's Most Outstanding Civil Clinic Student. He joined Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, and Bentley in Los Angeles in 1997 as a law clerk, was rehired as an associate upon admission to the California Bar in 1998, and became a partner in 2006. He then joined the complex litigation group in the Los Angeles office of Arent Fox as a partner in 2013. He was a skilled writer with an ability to explain difficult concepts in a clear fashion and was excellent at arguing in court from U.S. District Court to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Tim had an early interest in the internet and intellectual property that was the cornerstone of his practice. He was an avid car, truck, and motorcycle enthusiast and modified and raced his truck when he wasn’t practicing law. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by paternal grandparents Eugene and Ludie Skelton of Holly Springs, MS and maternal grandparents James and Ruby Freeman of Salina, KS. He is survived by his mother of Murrells Inlet, SC, sister Julie Skelton, also of Murrells Inlet, uncle Robert Freeman of Salina, KS, aunts Darlene Volk of Osgood, IN, Cynthia Holcomb and Loretta Gassid, both of Skiatook, OK, his friend and law partner for 19 years at Ropers and Arent Fox Allan Anderson, and his wife Nancy, of La Canada, CA, and special friends Chris and Teresa Hughes and their children Claire and Tate of Mount Pleasant, SC. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Garden City Baptist Church Music Fund, where his mother has been pianist since 1977, at 501 Pine Avenue, Garden City Beach, SC 29576. Private celebrations of Tim's life will be held at a later date in Los Angeles and Murrells Inlet.
