Walter “Walt” Jones, age 78, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Walt was born in Coshocton, Ohio, a son of the late Arthur Eugene Jones and Ivy May Brown Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Brigitte of 50 years, a brother William John, and sisters Margret Watson and Dorothy Hustead. Brigitte was definitely the love of his life, but he loved his work almost as much. They met while he was stationed in Germany in the Army. Unfortunately, they met because he accidentally hit her while she was jaywalking across the street. He would always say to his daughter, Trixie, you are just like your mother, if he saw me not crossing at a cross walk. He never forgot his wife, even buying presents for her after her death. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard, especially his tribute garden to his wife. He was always planning for the next season, even till the last days. He proudly served in the United States Army for over 25 years until his retirement. After he retired he joined the Ohio National Guard which he loved and he was happiest when he was finally able to return to Germany with National Guard. Walt also made many dear friends while in the Army. He had several good friends that still call for him. Most people just loved his quiet patience. Walt also retired from Clow Company as a cubilo maintenance man for over 40 years. He had several side jobs always in addition to Clow. He enjoyed working with his wife at a hotel in Coshocton, OH for a dear friend, VJay, as a maintenance man. After his wife died, he worked with VJay in both Coshocton and Canton at Sleep Inn Motels. He loved this job very much. He could sit and tinker with a broken thing for hours until he was able to fix them. He is survived by: his daughter, Trixie Melton and her husband Larry of Myrtle Beach, three grandsons Justin, Jamie and his wife Christen and Jeremy Melton all of Myrtle Beach; Great-granddaughter Skylar Grace Melton; his brother Arthur Eugene; sister Orleeta Russell; Nephew (but more like a son) William John (Bill) Jones; and Riley, his great-granddog. Walt spent a lot of his last days enjoying and looking after Skylar and Riley. His grandson Justin loved his stories about life and they had many good conversations of is life’s adventures. The family is planning a private service at sea at a later date. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is serving the family.
