William "Bill" Emory Kersey, age 72, of Causey Road, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Kersey was born in Conway, a son of the late George William and Maggie Stewart Kersey. He was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Training Union Director, teacher of the Joy Sunday School Class. Mr. Kersey was a former member of Langston Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Coordinator and with the bus ministry. He graduated from Conway High School n 1950 and attended Campbell University, Horry-Georgetown Techinical College and the University of South Carolina- Coastal. Mr. Kersey retired from Coastal Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 31 years of service. He served with the National Guard earning the rank of Master Sergeant and was an active member of the National Guard Breakfast Club. Mr. Kersey was also a member of the Conway Masonic Lodge #65, where he was named Mason of the Year for the years 2002 and 2003. He was also involved in the Horry County Prison Ministry for 15 years and was an avid reader and enjoyed many happy times out on the water in his sailboat. Mr. Kersey is predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy Kirby, grandaughter Kersey Cannon, and four brothers, Marvin, Carl, Wesley, and Ralph Kersey. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Ruth Bourne Kersey of Conway, three daughters, Deborah Shelley, Terri Sellers and her husband Bucky and Kimberly Uhler and her husband Rusty all of Conway; one son Mark Kersey of Conway; two sisters, Gretel Stalvey and Marjorie Hardee both of Conway and one brother David Kersey of Conway; eleven grandchildren, Brandi Jenkins and her husband Wayne of Conway, Mary Ann Gianelli and her husband Andy of Charlotte, NC, Travis Shelley, Whitney Sellers, Mallory Shelley, Cory Kersey, Courtney Sellers, Ethan Shelley, Emily Kirby, Spencer Sellers and Stewart Sellers all of Conway; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Gianelli and Layla Gianelli both of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday from Langston Baptist Church with Rev. Robbin King officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
