Conway....... William E. "Bill" Copeland, Jr., age 92 of Conway and formerly of Surfside Beach peacefully passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 surrounded by his family. Mr. Copeland was born August 16, 1931 in Hartsville, SC, son of the late William E. Copeland, Sr. and Matilda Williams Copeland. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather (who was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Daddy Bill" or "Mr. Bill"). Mr. Copeland was a graduate of Bethune High School in Bethune, SC. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean Conflict Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111. Mr. Copeland was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed watching high school football and basketball. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a Customer Service Engineer with IBM for 37 years, the last two years of which were spent in Germany. Mr. Copeland was a charter member of Garden City Baptist Church in Garden City, SC. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Conway where he was a member of the Angler Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Bobby Jean Morgan Copeland; two sons, Timothy "Tim" M. Copeland and Stanley D. "Stan" Copeland ; four brother, Hayes Copeland, Gary Copeland, David Copeland, and Donald Copeland; and a sister, Jeanette Brannon. Surviving are his second wife of 29 years, Barbara Thigpen Copeland; one daughter, Christine "Chris" D. Copeland; one grandson, Jameson Copeland; one sister, Marcia Mincey. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Robert W. Thigpen (Kim); and Jennifer T. Jordan (McKenzie); step grandchildren, Mary Catherine Richardson (Russ), Rebecca T. Crawford (Bryan), Will Jordan, Andrew Jordan, and Anne Caroline Jordan; and three step great grandchildren, Leigh Richardson, Lauren Richardson, and Layla Richardson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Rocky Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
