William "Bill" J. Dougherty, 81, of Conway, SC, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC, following an extended illness. Born July 1, 1934 in Lilly, PA, he was a son of the late Bernard and Dolores Dougherty. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. After leaving the army, he attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1960 with an Associate in Engineering. He had a long and distinguished career as a sales engineer in the power generation industry. Bill traveled the world for business and pleasure. He and his loving wife of 57 years, Elaine, took many memorable trips together. After Bill retired, they moved to Virginia Beach, VA, where they lived for more than a decade and made many great memories with their family and friends. In 2013, they moved to Conway, SC, to begin a new chapter in their life's adventure. More than anything, Bill loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, enthusiastic poker player, and loved to go dancing with his wife. His love for good food and good wine sparked his interest in winemaking and cooking, but he had a natural knack for baking his homemade strawberry pie was legendary. He'll be making many more pies in the sky. Bill leaves behind his loving wife, Elaine; three grandchildren, Michael, Stephanie and Nicholas; daughter-in-law, Mona; sister Jean Reese; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Eugene; his sister, Marigail Cavalo; and brother, Thomas. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 1:00 pm Friday, November 20, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church in Conway, with Father Sam Oloyedne officiating.
