August 24, 1988 - October 17, 2020
God picked one of the most beautiful flowers from His garden when Alyson Louise McCord Iglesias, age 32, passed away at home on Saturday, October 17, 2020, after a courageous ten-month battle with cervical cancer. Throughout her illness, she radiated a positive spirit and her faith never faltered. After her diagnosis, her motto became "win the day," which she did every day with utmost grace. On the day after her diagnosis, she said, "If anyone comes to know Jesus because of my situation, it will be worth it." Born in Conway, SC, on August 24, 1988, to Bobby and Nancy Martin McCord, she married the love of her life and best friend, Jose Iglesias, on November 12, 2011. Together she and Jose lived life to the fullest as they traveled around the world. They began the early years of their married life in Miami before returning to the Myrtle Beach area. The dash between Alyson's birth and death was filled with service to others through which she shared her abounding gifts. Her inner beauty captured the hearts of many as she spread love wherever she grew. Her early years were spent in a loving and supportive home where she enjoyed school, church, and dance class. As an honor graduate of Conway High School (Class of 2006), she represented her school as a cheerleader and Miss Conway High School. After high school, nursing became her passion. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida International University in 2014 and with a Master of Science in Nursing, FNP from Francis Marion University in 2019. Until her illness, she was employed by Conway Medical Center where she touched the lives of her patients and co-workers. Alyson and her family were especially proud of the completion of the nurse practitioner program, but sadly she was never able to put her certification into practice. Blessed with beautiful blue eyes and a radiant smile, Alyson will be remembered as a down-to-earth, humble, and kind friend. In her 32 years, she left a mark on many lives. She was and continues to be an example and inspiration of a life well-lived, a deep faith that shaped her life, and peace and courage while battling cancer. She inspired others by adding beauty and happiness to their surroundings. Her memory will continue to serve as a beacon of faith, hope, and love. Survivors include her husband, parents, sister Mary Chelsey Martin (Justin), brother Bryce McCord, in-laws Jose and Alice Iglesias, brother-in-law Andrex Iglesias (Aileen), nephew Nixon Martin, an extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, and treasured friends. She also leaves behind her three fur babies: beloved Dolce, Buster and Bear. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Dave Rickert officiating. For those wishing to honor Alyson's memory, please consider making a donation to one of her favorite charities, the Waccamaw Youth Center, P.O. Box 3293, Conway, SC 29528. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
