Dorothy "Dottie" Butler

Dorothy “Dottie” Butler age 88, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at her residence. Born in Gastonia, NC, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Bertha McDaniel. Dorothy and her late husband Jimmy founded and owned the Mini Shop and Twin Pines restaurant in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. In the mid 80’s Dorothy began working as a full-time associate for the Charleston Store at Manhattan Industries/Salant Corporation. She worked under Bill Warner who promoted her to assistant manager after quickly recognizing her cheerful disposition and work ethic. Dorothy’s input was greatly valued, and her opinion was often sought out in company business matters leading to her promotion to manager and eventual relocation to Myrtle Beach where she operated one of the top ten volume stores of the company. She ended her career as a group manager with the responsibility to oversee all personnel and operations related to four stores. Bill stated, “Although our working relationship ended in the mid 90’s, we had a bond that I will never forget and have been blessed by knowing such a wonderful woman, my wife Bridget and I love her from the bottom of our hearts.” Dorothy began working at JC Penney in Murrells Inlet, SC in 1990 as a salesclerk and eventually worked her way to merchandise assistant. She worked at Hammock Shop general store in Pawleys Island, SC as a sales associate. She always had a passion to help others and give back to her community. She became a member of Garden City Baptist Church on June 20, 1995. Dorothy was a member of the Hospitality committee, in addition to delivering meals to church members who were confined to their homes. She was a member of the charity Sunday school class and Joy Fellowship. She was previously a member of Berkely Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, SC. Dorothy had a loving spirit to care for children and could often be found sitting on the floor with a bright smile helping with the church nursery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy A. Butler and a daughter, Judy Ann Butler. Survivors include her children, Patty Welch (Ronnie) of Moncks Corner, SC, Lynn Gregory (Bobby) of Pinopolis, SC, Jemmy Lea McSwain (Chris) of Surfside Beach, SC and Nancy Tuttle (Larry) of Surfside Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jamie (Sean), Robby (Kerstin), Grant, Alec; great-grandchildren, Gunner, Dixie and Landyn. A special thank you to her caregiver, Pamela Williams. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Garden City Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, September 18, 2020 at the church.
