Douglas Hayes Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Conway……. Douglas Gene Hayes, age 70, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 with his family by his side. Douglas was born in Aurora, Colorado, a son of the late Eugene and Cecile Muldoon Hayes. As a son of a U.S. Air Force veteran, Doug lived a well-traveled childhood where he gained a strong appreciation for our country's beauty and history. He was a graduate of Utah State University and made his career in the casino industry. After 30 years of living and raising his family in South Jersey, he and his wife, Terry, relocated to Conway, SC where Doug enjoyed playing golf year round and cheering for his beloved Cowboys! In retirement, he was privileged to travel the world with his wife and enjoyed time researching his family's tree and history. He relished life as an involved grandfather, supporting his grandchildren in all their athletics and interests, and memorably teaching them to fish in his backyard. He was a fiercely loyal and moral man of high integrity; and a pillar of strength for all those that loved him. Douglas is survived by his wife, and best friend of 20 years, Terry Hayes; son, Justin Hayes of Tacoma, WA, daughter, Erinn Connolly (Peter) of Fort Mill, SC, and stepchildren Florence Shelley (Ashley) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Edmund Watkins (Giedre) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Nicole Bixler (Wesley) of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren Ashlynn (8) and Kenley Connolly (6), Hannah (18) and Olivia Shelley (15), and Gabrielle (11) and Edmund IV Watkins (9). His sisters, Annette Griffin and Donna Kempt, and their families. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Douglas' honor. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements
