Frances Campbell
August 16, 1938 - August 24, 2020
Myrtle Beach…..Frances Campbell, 82 died Monday August 24, 2020 after a short illness. The Charles Dickens quote, “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts,” seemed to be written with Frances J. Campbell in mind. Frances was born in Martinsville, Virginia to Carl and Sophie Janney. As an only child, she was never lonely as she grew-up surrounded with many aunts, uncles, and cousins in her hometown. After high school, she attended the Shenandoah Music Conservatory where she met her future husband. After graduation, she taught voice and music lessons in her home. Frances had an adventurous spirit, soon after college she traveled across the country and settled for a short time in California where she did social work with mothers and children. One of her grandest adventures was when she traveled to Cuba as a young woman with a friend and loved to tell stories about her time there. She had two sons, and she opened a daycare business so she could always be present with them. Frances always adored children and was an avid believer in multi-sensory education through music, art, and Montessori learning. In 1983, her independent and adventurous spirit took her and her boys to live in Myrtle Beach as co-owner and operator of Myrtle’s Turtle motel on Ocean Boulevard. Years later she would use that experience when she went to work at the Sea Mist Resort. She was a valued employee, serving in many positions working alongside her friends at the Sea Mist until her retirement in 2019. Everyone that met Frances loved her. She was kind, generous, impeccably mannered, and engaging. She loved nature and spent many hours in her garden and feeding the wildlife. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, being present for first steps, first recitals, ballgames, graduations, and steps into adulthood. She was known as “Gam” and “Honey,” not only to her grandkids but also to their friends. Honey was a steadfast presence, always loving, always positive, and God-centered. Frances is survived by her two sons, Matthew Campbell (Julie Fowler) and Joshua Campbell (Neva) both of Myrtle Beach, and six grandchildren, Chelsea Yamashiro (Colt) of Hawaii, Emily Campbell (Jimmy) of Myrtle Beach, Matthew Campbell, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, Jessica Campbell of Myrtle Beach, Isabella Campbell and Zoe Campbell of Myrtle Beach. She will be greatly missed by many friends, relatives, co-workers, and loved ones. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, August 27th 2020 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
