Jefferson D. Phelps III

June 1, 1932 - February 3, 2022

Jefferson D. Phelps lll, 89, passed from this life to eternal life on February 3, 2022, at Compass Post-Acute Rehabilitation in Conway, South Carolina. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1974. After his retirement from the service, he worked in mortgage banking in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area until 2007. He loved all things military, especially watching documentaries and movies on the subject. He was also a passionate scuba diver, a passion he shared with his daughter, Sharon. He was a loving and humorous father and grandfather who always had a joke or funny story to tell. Jeff is preceded in death by Madeline L. Phelps, his wife of 64 years and son-in-law, Elvin Dunavant. He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Bobbi Phelps. He is also survived by his children Paula Phelps Meadows and her husband Bill, Sharon Phelps Dunavant, Karen Phelps Poates and her husband Ken, and Paul Phelps. He was the beloved grandfather of David, Rachel, Jennifer, Gavin, Andrea, Angela, Jessica, Emmie, Tyler, Rayanne, and 7 great-grandchildren. At his request, there will not be a service. Jeff’s wishes included sending a portion of his remains to be interned with Madeline and a portion to be included in a future memorial at sea.
