MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA Gerald “Jerry” Michael Jordan, 85 of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina died on June, 12, 2021 of natural causes in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 27, 1936 to Michael Jordan and Regina (née Locci) and raised in Rensselaer, New York. Enlisting at the age of 17 years, he went on to proudly serve on active duty with the United States Air Force for four years: Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi (technical training, Aircraft Control and Warning Operator, Air Force Specialty Code 27350); Indian Mountain, Alaska (AC&W Operator, i.e. radar intercept scope operator contributing to the Distant Early Warning network); and Guthrie Air Force Station, Charleston, West Virginia (AC&W Operator). Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and on July 3, 1959 married Karen Louisa (née Gill), also of Rensselaer, New York. After moving the following year from Rensselaer to East Schodack, New York and purchasing their first home, they began to raise a family. Following his retirement after 33 years with Sterling Drug Pharmaceuticals, serving last as the Warehouse and Traffic Manager for the East Greenbush, New York facility, he and his wife moved to Surfside Beach, South Carolina in 1991. An avid golfer, Jerry always enjoyed hitting the links at every available opportunity. A devoted Husband and loving Father, he was also certainly a caring friend to many in New York and South Carolina. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 52 years, his younger brother Michael Jordan of Rensselaer, New York and his second son, Thomas Anthony Jordan of Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Affectionately known as “Chedaz” to his closest friends and children Gerald Michael Jordan Jr. of McLean, Virginia, Debra Lee Tanneberger (Mike) of Saint Albans, Vermont, and JoAnn Regina Ristau of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. “Poppy” also lives on in seven wonderful grandchildren: Karen Elise Jordan; Jennifer Marie Bowen (Bryan), Anthony Thomas Jordan, and Carolyn Barbara Simpson (Jake); William Robert and Jordan Elizabeth Tanneberger; and Kevin Paul Ristau II. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the professional and compassionate support received from McLeod Seacoast Hospital, 4000 Highway 9 East, Little River, SC 29566 and Amedisys Hospice Care, 402 Singleton Ridge Road, Conway, SC 29526. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable contributions be made to Amedisys Foundation to support those in times of need.
