    CPO John Vernon Causey, U.S. Navy (Ret.)

    September 12, 1930 - October 25, 2020

    Conway....John Vernon Causey, US Navy (retired) Chief Petty Officer, age 90 of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed on to Glory to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 25, 2020 at his residence. He was the devoted husband of the late Lois "Tootsie" Graham Causey. Mr. Causey was born on September 12, 1930 in Conway, SC, a son of the late Basil "Bath" Causey and Mae Chestnut Causey Hardee. After his father's passing, he was raised by his step-father, the late Oliver Hardee. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 2:00 PM Friday the 30th at Good Hope Baptist Church, Conway, SC, with Rev. John Sullivan officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM at the Church. Survivors include daughters Jeanette Caulder of Conway, SC, Vernell Cramer (Steven) of Charlotte, NC, and Shelly Askey (Don) of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandsons Jeremy Sexton, Jarrett Sexton, and Donnie Askey; grand-daughters Tracy Johnson, Tara Holmes Barnhill, and Melissia Holmes; great grands Carmen Sexton, Greyson Todd, and Colby Cox; sister Hazel Singleton, bother-in-law Jimmy Graham and many nieces and nephews; also his beloved "Little Buddy" lap dog Gizmo. John joined the US Navy at the age of 17 where his distinguished career spanned 30 years. He was very patriotic and loved his country, serving in the Korean and Viet-Nam wars. He spent the majority of his career on active sea duty aboard many ships which were mostly air craft carriers. He served as the Head Recruiter for 3 years in Greensboro, NC. John enjoyed sharing his many stories about his adventures around the world during his Navy days. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, John always had people smiling and bursting with laughter from his many stories and spontaneous jokes. He enjoyed listening to Country Music with Loretta Lynn being his all-time favorite. He was always ready and willing to go out for a good seafood platter with family or friends. He was pre-deceased by son Glenn Holmes, daughter-in-law Teresa Holmes, son-in-law Kendal Caulder, and grandson David Johnson with whom he shared a birthday. Five brothers: Elbert Causey, Carl Causey, George Hardee, Hezekiah Hardee, and Oliver Hardee, Jr. Six sisters: Myrtle Dorman, Jo Stevens, Slyvia Booth, Della Buddin, Gen Lily, Elise Booth, as well as many other family members and friends. Memorials made be sent to Good Hope Baptist Church 6101 Privetts Rd. Conway, SC 29526 or to the American Cancer Society. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is serving the Causey family.
