    Joseph Cullen Cooke, Jr.

    August 8, 1936 - June 2, 2020

    Galivants Ferry…. Joseph "Joe" Cooke Jr, age, 83, went to be with his Lord on June 2, 2020. Joe was born on August 8, 1936 in Loris, SC, a son of the late Joseph and Velma Todd Cooke. Joe was a member of Berea Baptist Church. He was a member of Masonic Graddy Lodge #257, Order of Eastern Star #218 and the Waccamaw Shrine Club. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Joe was always there for you but set in his ways. Often called ornery, but "he was being Joe". He was a very hard worker and willing to help anyone. Joe was a very good cook and his pot roast was family famous. He enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel and Dales Seafood in Tabor City. He loved ice cream and the mountains. Joe found joy in decorating his yard for Christmas, dressing as Santa, and giving gifts to those that came. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Eunice in 1999; daughter Linda Tilton; brother Virgil Cooke; sisters Brenda Graham and Glenda Cooke. Surviving are son Carson Hardwick (Paddi) of Little River; Daughter Connie Hardwick (Arthur) of Galivants Ferry; grandchildren Brad Hardwick (Kim), Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hardwick, Christy Sexton (Tony), Terri Moore, Tabatha Tilton-Brennick (Chris), Jamey Hicks (Ahmed), Jordan Hicks (Aaron), Crystal Knight (Bryan); great grandchildren Will Hardwick, Myatt Hardwick, Bailey Phillips, Ana-Caroline Phillips, Jerrett Vereen Lovin, Hayden Sexton, Hayes Sexton, Ava Knight, Lola Tilton-Brennick; great-great-grandchild Vladimir Lovin; brother Charles Cooke (Phyllis); brother-in-law Lee Graham; many nieces and nephews and his special friend Ms. Yates. A Funeral Service will be held Friday June 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Berea Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Steven Allen and Billy Wayne Hardwick. The family will receive friends Thursday June 4, 2020 from 5:00 -7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or Berea Baptist Church, 4287 Joyner Swamp Road, Aynor, SC 29511. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is serving the family.
