Joseph "Joe" John Yoko Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joe Yoko was born April 26, 1940, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, located on the Ohio River in the western portion of the Greater Pittsburgh region. He was born from Hungarian ancestry. Joe remembered a simple but happy childhood growing up in the government projects playing outdoor games like “Kick the Can” and football. At an early age, Joe enjoyed music, especially rock and roll. Joe had a great tenor voice. In high school, he and some of his friends formed a quartet and sang popular songs. After high school, Joe joined the U.S. Army. He spent time in Seoul, Korea as a disc jockey, fostering his love of music. When Joe returned to the states, he met his first wife Hilda, who had been born in Germany. Joe and Hilda ventured to Germany throughout the years and from that, Joe developed a love for travel. Hilda Yoko was instrumental in Joe’s getting employed at Lockheed Martin, a large aerospace company, where he continued employment until retiring. Unfortunately, Joe and Hilda divorced after forty-eight years of marriage. As a youngster, Joe played football and as the years progressed, he enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on the television. His favorite item of clothing was an official Ben Roethlisberger number 7 jersey. In 2013, Joe met his current wife, Cheryl Hosokawa. One thing that kept Joe smiling was good food. Cheryl was always trying something new in the kitchen. One thing Joe prided himself on was keeping in shape. He worked out at a gym. At home, he exercised with weights. He and his wife Cheryl also enjoyed walking in the neighborhood. In 2019, Joe and Cheryl moved from Colorado to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They liked picnics at the beach. Every weekend they would enjoy a movie and eating out at a restaurant. Joe’s life was happy and full. He passed away on June 22, 2022. He will be remembered with love from his family and friends. Joe Yoko is survived by his wife Cheryl Hosokawa, his two daughters Sherry Yoko and Sheila Lowdermilk, and his sister Pat McCracken.
