Josephine McConkey

The family of Josephine M. (Golfieri) McConkey, of Conway, South Carolina is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 70 years. Josephine was born in Springfield, MA to Amedio and Josephine Golfieri (both predeceased in 1967 and 2006). She was a longtime resident of West Springfield, MA until relocating to Conway, South Carolina in 2017. She was a 1974 graduate from West Springfield High School and attended Cosmetology School shortly after graduation. She worked as a Hairdresser for many years in West Springfield and Springfield, MA and then worked as an Activities Director and Hairdresser at the West Springfield Nursing Home. Josie was an active member of St. Anne Church and St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Springfield, MA and St. Anne's in Conway, South Carolina. She also enjoyed line dancing, Zumba, and rooting for her favorites sports teams. She loved volunteering her time and energy to local charitable organizations; Unico Chapter and the West Springfield Senior Center. She is survived by her High School sweetheart, her devoted and loving husband of 49 years, John "Jake" McConkey, her dear son Jeffrey C. McConkey, "the center of her world" and her grand fur babies, Tank and Athena. Survived by siblings; Hope Zitka and her husband Edward Zitka, Louise Rivard, James Golfieri, Amedio Golfieri and his wife Donna. Sister in-laws; Aroxy Meregian, Debbie McConkey and Carol McConkey and Brother In laws; Michael McConkey and Alan McConkey. Nieces; Andrea Golfieri, Toni Golfieri (predecessed in 2020) Alicia Zitka and her husband Daniel Abrams, and Nephew Eddie Zitka and husband Ken Comia, Great Nephew Theodore Abrams and great Niece Charlotte Abrams, along with cousins and friends. A Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Conway, South Carolina. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Anne's Episcopal Church. In addition, A Private Celebration of Life will be held in August, 2026 in West Springfield, MA at St Thomas Cemetery. "In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity". Josie's life was about giving to her "family, friends and community". She was beautiful, generous, strong, loving and loyal, but words cannot do justice to the woman that she was. She will live in our hearts and memories until we're together again. Josie always would say "she accepted her Heavenly Father and knew she'd be with her mother, so she never feared death". God's Blessing and Mercy for this beautiful; Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. We will always Love You.
