    Margaret Santacroce

    April 4, 1921 - December 30, 2021

    Margaret (Peggy) Santacroce died on December 30, 2021 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born on June 4, 1921 in Birmingham, England to Violet and John V. Hewson. When she was four the family moved back to New York City. In her youth, she was an avid swimmer and won many medals in competition. She also was a talented portrait artist. After high school she worked in a photographer’s studio and then a plant during the war years. She met the love of her life, John T. Santacroce, was married for 65 years and raised 7 children together. She and John moved to the Myrtle Beach area in 1982, where they enjoyed square dancing with the Grand Strand Strutters, fishing and walking the beach and hunting for sea shells. After her children moved to the area, Peggy became an avid bowler in a league with three of her daughters. She was very active in the DAV Auxiliary, Post 30, where she served as secretary in 1982 and rose to Sr. Vice Commander. She was also an active member of The American Legion Auxiliary and her church. Peggy’s real passion and joy in life was her family and they became the center of her attention. Her activities revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a gentle soul, patient, kind and a wonderful, loving mother. All who met her loved her and many people called her Mom. She totally supported her husband and they were devoted to each other through their years together. Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, and their beautiful son, Robbie, her parents, Violet and John Hewson, sister, Betty Schaefer and brother, Ken Hewson. Survivors include: Six children: Christine Marousek, Irene Santacroce, R. John ( Marianne) Santacroce, Michael (Ellen) Santacroce and AnnMarie (Tony) Constantino, 12 grandchildren: Laura, Paul, Sarah, Samatha, Janine, Jaclyn, Danielle, Anthony, Dominick, and Toni Ann, 17 great grandchildren: 8 girls and 9 boys and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was a very special woman, Mother, grandmother, wife and friend and we will miss her always! Her funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
