Myrtle Beach, SC… With extreme deep sadness the family of Mary M.Soucy, 89 years young, announces her unexpected death on April 9th at Grand Strand Hospital. Loved ones were honored to be there surrounding her with their love. Mary was born in Falmouth Mass., the daughter of Philomena "Frances "Nunes. She was married to the love of her life, her departed husband Paul Soucy for 61 years when he died nine years ago. For their first 22 years they raised their 3 children while traveling the world through the USAF. Mary balanced the demands of being a military wife, an often daunting task, with grace as well as the "you wait until your father gets home" theory. After Paul retired they spent their days and nights together with a multitude of loving family and friends traveling, boating and truly enjoying the life they shared. It is a great comfort to know they are together again reaping the bounties of heaven. Mary was an avid reader, often times curled up in her recliner with a good book. Perhaps her best asset was being a compassionate friend, always willing to lend an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry upon. She was blessed with worldwide lifetime friends and family who adored "Mom, Mother, Mary, Madeline, and Nana." She adored her grand and great grandchildren and we will keep her memory alive for them. Her favorite part of the week was at 8pm every Sunday night when her brother Frank would call to catch up. They shared a very special bond, she'd often say how much she loved her "little brother". A devout Catholic, Mary was a member of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church, sitting front and center with her daughter on Saturday evenings. Her faith was an important part of her life and her belief was following the golden rule and honoring our Lord was something you lived daily not just proclaimed on Sundays. This remarkable woman shall remain in the hearts of many . She will be eternally missed and cherished. To honor her love of bright colors, we encourage you to wear your most cheerful and happiest attire to her funeral and celebration of life. Survivors include her children, Debra Soucy Commander of Myrtle Beach, SC, Richard "Rick" Soucy (Susan) of Conway, SC, and Maria Whisenhunt of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, April Smith, Caitlyn Welch (Al), Jared Soucy (Aubrey), Madeline Smith (Towns), Brittany Sedillo (Matthew), Kristin Weidman (Robby), and Jacob Whisenhunt; eleven great grandchildren, Georgia Hope, Chase, Turner, Brooklyn, Ryleigh, Ezrah, Ariah, Mason, London, Kinslee, and Jackson Paul; one brother, Frank Nunes (Donna) of Falmouth, MA; and several special nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 17, 2026 at St. James Catholic Church with Father David Nerbun officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
