Maxine T. Dawes

Maxine Tyler Dawes age 89, died Friday February 19, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Dawes was born in Cool Springs, SC to the late Monroe and Nettie Maude Tyler. She graduated Conway High School in 1949 and attended Coastal Carolina University in the 1970’s. She worked as a secretary for the Horry County Sheriff’s Office. She was a realtor and did Income taxes. Mrs. Dawes also attended and taught Sunday school at Loris First Baptist Church in Loris, SC, where she was involved in many civic and church activities. Mrs. Dawes served four years on Loris City council and then became the first female Mayor in Loris serving 12 years. She was also very active in the American Red Cross and served as Board Chairman with the Horry County American Red Cross. She later helped organize and served as the chairman of Murrells Inlet 20/20. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles F. Dawes, Sr., a brother Tom Tyler and son in law Bill Wooten. Mrs. Dawes is survived by her son Charles F. “Chuck” Dawes, Jr. (Heidi), daughter; Delitha D. “Del” Wooten, grandchildren; Erin W. Erwin (Lucas), Sarah Wooten, Natalie, Andrew and Adam Work, sister Jerri Tyler Cameron (Tom) and several beloved nieces and nephews. A graveside Service will be held at Twin City Memorial Gardens at 3:00 PM on Wednesday February 24, 2021. An online guestbook is available at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com.
