May 25, 1930 - May 17, 2020
Patricia Ann Simpson Breeze On Sunday, May 17th, 2020, the Lord reunited Pat with her sweetheart, Carter. Patricia Ann Simpson Breeze, 89, of Greenwood, SC was born on May 25, 1930, in Carbondale, Illinois, the only child of the late Raymond Ward Simpson and Jessie Vivian Russell Simpson. She grew up in Benton, Illinois, and later attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she received her degree in Speech and minor in English, in 1950. She began her teaching career in the Benton School System. On June 7th, 1952 she married the love of her life and spent the next twenty years devotedly accompanying and supporting him as he served in the Air Force. Along the way, she raised their family and taught school in Illinois, Florida, the Alaskan Territory, Texas, Hawaii, Ohio, and finally, upon Carter's retirement from the Air Force in 1971, Conway, South Carolina. As they would often tell the story, as soon as they drove up to the steps of First United Methodist Church in March, 1972, they knew they were home, even though Carter had yet to be offered the position of Diaconal Minister of Music. They quickly settled into the community, Pat teaching at Waccamaw Academy while Carter pursued his career in music. Over the years, they built a new life and countless friendships among the people of Conway. After Carter's passing in 2004, Pat continued to be a presence in the community as she worked at the Conway Visitor Center. In 2013, Pat retired to Wesley Commons in Greenwood, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Edwin Carter Breeze. Surviving are her three children, Mark Carter Breeze (Linda) of Greer, South Carolina, Scott Simpson Breeze of Greenville, South Carolina, and Robert Sidney Breeze of San Antonio, Texas; two grandsons, Scott Carter Breeze (Lisa) of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Aric Jordan Lavender of Nashville, Tennessee; a granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Braxton Breeze of Greer, South Carolina; and a great-granddaughter, Annalisa Caroline Breeze of Bluffton, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that you take someone you love out to dinner and tell them how much they mean to you. However, if you still wish to send a memorial, she suggested a contribution to the Organ Maintenance Fund at First United Methodist Church, 1001 5th Avenue, Conway, South Carolina 29526 or Main Street Methodist Church, 211 North Main Street, Greenwood, South Carolina 29646. A private family celebration will be conducted at the National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina at a later date.
