Robert Joseph "Bob" Kovacs June 19, 1942 — April 23, 2026 Robert Joseph Kovacs passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. A proud veteran, Robert dedicated 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of MSGT. His military career took him across the globe, sparking a lifelong passion for adventure, camping, and travel. Even after hanging up the uniform, his commitment to his fellow service members never wavered, as he remained a devoted member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Upon returning to the States, Robert transitioned his leadership skills into the restaurant industry. He managed several establishments before becoming the owner and operator of Fat Jacks of Myrtle Beach, where he combined his love for food with his natural talent for hospitality. Robert was a man of many passions. He was a die-hard Clemson football fan and spent many happy hours golfing or watching NASCAR. In his later years, he found great joy and companionship at The Refuge Savannah Bluff church and the Conway Senior Center, sharing stories and laughs with his close circle of friends. His smile and infectious personality made him a friend to all. Above all, Robert loved his family. He was a man blessed with "two families" and was always the first to look forward to the next big gathering or "party." Predeceased by his mother and father, Stephen and Elizabeth Kovacs, his son, Mark Kovacs, his brother Steve Kovacs and sister Barbara Hudak. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbarette Kovacs and her three daughters, his daughter Monica and her mother Maria. He had 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and special caregiver Laura. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Caris Healthcare for the compassionate hospice care provided during his final days. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, April 26, 2026 at The Refuge Savannah Bluff, officiated by Pastor Jon Hunter and Rev. Mike Herrington. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
