Ronald Sumner Dunn
May 8, 1940 - July 20, 2021
Myrtle Beach, SC Ronald Sumner "Ronnie" Dunn, 81, of Myrtle Beach and previously of Oxford, Maine, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2021 at his residence after an extended illness. Ronnie was born in Boston, MA., son of the late Cecil Gordon and Lois Harwood Dunn. He attended Oxford Baptist Church in Maine. Ronnie lived in many different places but considered the cabin on Whitney Pond home and always enjoyed spending time there with family and friends. Most days you would see him and Cindy putting around the pond or down the Little Androscoggin River in his blue boat, either fishing or looking for water creatures. Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman. Not only did he enjoy fishing, but he also liked to go deer hunting. He first developed his hunting skills getting woodchucks for the 25-cent bounty when he was a boy. Ronnie's favorite way to hunt was with his camera. He was an excellent photographer and usually had his camera everywhere he went, snapping impromptu shots when he thought you weren't looking. Ronnie was an amateur mechanic and was fond of muscle cars. The '64 GTO he restored was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed off-roading, whether it was driving the 4 Runner up a narrow dirt mountain path (and scaring Cindy half to death) or driving the Cressida through dry river beds on the Arizona Strip. Unbelievably, he never once got stuck, but was always prepared with a trusty shovel just in case. Ronnie truly enjoyed nature, whether observing wildlife in Maine, watching a sunset over the Arizona desert or hiking in Zion National Park. Ronnie had a wonderful sense of humor and could make others laugh. He had a great love for all kinds of music. He loved animals and had a fondness for any type of dog or cat. Ronnie was a devoted husband, and Cindy was the love of his life. They had many exciting adventures together. He never lost his kind, loving thoughtfulness, especially for Cindy. Even in his last few days he was able to whisper and tell her one more time, "I love you." He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Pratley. Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Cynthia Dee Dunn; sisters-in-law Vicki (Glenn) McGrath and Cathy (Marc) Milliard; brother-in-law Neal (Sharon) Grass; niece Susan (Michael) Nickel; nephews Stephen (Genevieve) Hills and Matt (Jan) Hills; and many other nieces and nephews on Cindy's side of the family. Ronnie always had a special bond with his nephew, Ben McGrath, and loved listening to Ben play the piano. As Ronnie took his final breaths, he was listening to a song called "Ronnie's Song" that Ben had written especially for him. A special thank-you to Ruth, Latisha, Latasha, Cassie, Suzanne, Bill and his dogs (Rosie, Annie and Macy), the nurses from Patriots Hospice and to Lisa and Omaley from Always Caring. A Celebration of Life will be held in Maine at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org or the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org . Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is assisting the family.
