March 31, 1945 - November 27, 2019
Sequoia Marie Sume, born March 31, 1945 passed away peacefully on November 27, 2019, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Bunny, as she was affectionately known, lived her life with love and dignity, just as she bravely fought her battle with cancer. She was our WARRIOR!! Her genuine love for children led her to work as a school crossing guard in Baltimore City and coached many girls’ softball teams through Dundalk Recreation. She met the love of her life in 1975 and was married shortly after. They enjoyed building a life together and raising their children in Dundalk, MD, where they met many of their lifelong friends. They moved to Essex, MD and eventually retired in 2005 to Murrells Inlet, SC. where she enjoyed her birthday club ladies, water aerobics, quilting club and walks on the beach. Bunny loved life, a good book, golfing, bowling, traveling and hosting family holidays, that’s what we, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss the most. Bunny was not only a devoted wife but a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always enjoying birthday parties, ball games, dance recitals, graduations and weddings. She was sweet, funny, kind and feisty, giving her political views to any listening ear and advice on all matters child-rearing. Mom brought a smile into the lives of many and we will forever miss our Sequoia the Warrior! Widowed by her beloved husband, Frank A. Sume. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Doris & Eugene Horn of Murrells Inlet, SC, Donna & Timothy Williams of Dundalk, MD and Diane & Scott Marsh of Carney, MD. Also, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and her three sisters, Patricia Baker of Wernersville, PA, Joan Townsend of Wright City, MO, and Dolores Hall of Mead, Co. and many nieces and a nephew. She is predeceased by her mother, Doris C. Smith and a brother John E. Baumgartner. At this time a memorial will be planned in January in Baltimore. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
