Pawleys Island Alan Stacey Altman age 55, loving husband and father, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his residence. Born in Beaufort, SC, he was a son of Robert Linwood and Nancy Stacey Altman. Alan was a graduate of Winyah High School in 1975 and a graduate of Furman University with a Political Science Degree which he obtained in 1979. Alan achieved Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America at age 13. He was the broker in charge of Pawleys Island Realty and The Georgetown Agency. He was Co-Owner of Pawleys Island Enterprises; and the Owner of Pawleys/Litchfield Services. He received the Realtor Image Award in May of 1999. He was a member of Pawleys Island Accommodations Tax Committee; and Vice Chairman of Pawleys Island Chapel Board of Trustees. Alan was always active in his community. His past involvement in numerous organizations include President - Georgetown County Board of Visitors; State Director - S.C. Association of Realtors; RPAC Chairman - S.C. Association of Realtors, Equal Opportunity Committee; Blue Ribbon Committee to Review State Coastal Regulations; Board of Directors - Pawleys Island Montessori Day School; President - Waccamaw Neck Lions Club; a member of the Bunnelle Foundation Board; President of Winyah Indigo Society; Board of Directors - Waccamaw Neck Civic Association; and Board of Directors on Kids Voting. Alan was proudly recognized by the U.S. Senate as a man who devoted his life to his family, his community and his church for many years. He demonstrated enthusiasm, strength of character, and a diligent work ethic. His dedication to his community and family served as an inspiration to everyone. He received a Lifetime Leadership Award from the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce in 2012. He was also awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent which is South Carolina's highest community service award. Surviving in addition to his parents of Pawleys Island are his wife, Betsy Walker Altman; 2 daughters, Sarah Emily and Casey Elizabeth Altman; a son, Alex Linwood Altman; 2 sisters, Nancy Altman (Randy Harris) and Ann Morris (Chet); nephews, Jake and Dean Harris and nieces, Stacey and Gracie Morris. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, March 29, 2013 at Pawleys Island Community Church with Reverend Harold Lewis and Reverend Toombs Kay officiating. A private burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery for family and close friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
