Tributes

Benjamin T. Johnson, age 70, of 206 Lakeland Drive, husband of Laura G. Johnson, died Thursday, August 10th, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Johnson was born March 18th, 1936 in Conway, SC, a son of the late James Troy and Ida Hardee Johnson. He was a 1954 graduate of Conway High School, and entered the US Air Force where he served for 20 years and then retired as a Senior Master Sergeant, having served in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam war. Upon completion of his military service, Benjamin worked as an agent with Nationwide Insurance for 28 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and The Hut Bible Class as well as a former member of the Conway Kiwanis and Lion's Clubs. He was a former member and past commander of Horry Post 111 of the American Legion. Benjamin coached his sons and many others in Little League Baseball for many years. He was an avid golfer and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is pre-deceasded by a son, Benjamin Earl Johnson, a brother, Baynard Johnson, and a sister, Mary Lobrillo. Surviving in addtion to his wife of 51 years are one daughter, Vicki J. Johnson and her husband, Steven L. Johnson of Harrisonburg, VA; three sons, Kirk Johnson and his wife Cathy of Little River, Matt Johnson and his wife, Lisa of Conway and Chris Johnson of Conway; six grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Cody Johnson, and Dillon Johnson; two brothers, Roger Johnson and Edward Johnson, both of Conway; seven sisters, Evelyn S. Shelley, Gertrude Hardee, Ann Dusenbury, Linda Todd, Margaret Paul, all of Conway, Virgie Scirigione of San Jose, CA, and Carolyn Bundy of Mt. Olive, NC. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, August 12th, 2006 from First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mac Kennett and Rev. Barry Crocker officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
