Bobby Johnson

Surfside Beach…………… Robert (Bobby) Winslow Johnson passed away on 25Feb19 at Greenville Memorial while surrounded by his loving and heartbroken family. Born and raised in Surfside Beach SC, Bobby grew up in a busy household with six other siblings and was an exceptional athlete. He played both football and baseball during his years attending Socastee High School, earning the title of “Most Athletic” and receiving a baseball scholarship to Coastal Carolina University. While attending college, Bobby decided he wanted to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Bobby was an exceptional Marine who traveled all over the world during his time in service and made many lifelong friends. After receiving an honorable discharge, Bobby moved back to Surfside Beach where he met his wife and settled down to raise a family. Bobby was a loving husband and became the father to two boys whom he adored. He was an exceptional father who made every effort to spend time with his children by becoming involved in athletic youth programs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and school trips. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, Bobby worked as a refrigeration mechanic for over thirty years and was well respected by so many people in the community for his work ethic. In addition to spending time with his family, Bobby also loved watching sports, being involved at St. Michaels Catholic Church, enjoying the outdoors, cooking, learning about history, growing vegetables in his garden, and enjoying a Budweiser with friends and family. Bobby was such a friendly and likeable person who was adored by so many people. His ability to love and the care he had for others had no equal. He was always willing to take time to help anyone, whether that person was a member of his own family, a coworker, or a complete stranger. His sudden and unexpected passing into heaven has left so many people heartbroken. Bobby has gone on to join his father Ferdinand Johnson, his brother James Monroe Johnson, his sisters Carrie Johnson and Cheryl Johnson, and his sister-in-law Vicky Johnson. Bobby leaves behind his wife of 32 years Beckie Johnson, his two sons USA CPT Alan Johnson and Scott Johnson, his mother Beverly Johnson, his brother Steve Johnson, his sisters Laura Balentine and Tara Johns-Berry, his mother-in-law Faye Barnett, brother-in-law’s Jay Balentine and Don Hendrix, his sister-in-law Patsy Hendrix, his nephews Don Hendrix, Marshall Balentine, Nick Johnson, and Jeb Berry, and his nieces Hanna-Gray Balentine and Melissa Davidson, as well as members of his extended family and so many friends. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 1 – 3 PM.
