MSgt. Ceferino R. Guajardo, Jr., US Air Force (Retired) Ceferino R. "Rudy" Guajardo, Jr., age 79, of Surfside Beach, SC passed away with dignity and peace Saturday, March 31, 2012 at home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Rudy was born October 15, 1932 in Brownsville, TX to the late Ceferino R. Guajardo, Sr. and the former Maria A. Silva and is predeceased by his brother. MSgt. Guajardo served the United States of America with distinction through 26 years of meritorious service in the United States Air Force. Having served in the Korean Conflict, Southeast Asia and numerous stateside and overseas bases during his career, he retired from active duty after his last assignment in 1978 at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. After his retirement from the Air Force, Rudy and his family made their home in Surfside Beach, SC where he established himself as a small business entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for members of the Hispanic community. Known affectionately as "Mr. Rudy", he was loved, admired and respected by all who knew him. Rudy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was deeply loved by his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Marina "Minnie" Guajardo; six children, C. Rudy Guajardo, III and his wife Debbie of Florence, SC, Mario A. "Al" Guajardo and his wife Denise of Surfside Beach, SC, Teresa M. "Terri" Davis and her husband Michael of Murrells Inlets, SC, Mary G. Guajardo of Surfside Beach, SC, Patricia A. "Patti" Shoemaker and her husband Scott of Surfside Beach, SC and Cynthia D. "Cindi" Truelove and her husband John of Surfside Beach, SC; ten grandchildren, Christopher Guajardo, Tiffany Guajardo, Savannah Guajardo, Jillian Davis, Joshua Shoemaker and his wife Mandi, Danielle Blanchard and her husband Chad, James Shoemaker, Julieanne Shoemaker, Whitney Helton and her husband Kelly, Katie Truelove, Chandler Truelove; five great-grandchildren, Amber Clay, Alex Baldwin, Bronson Shoemaker, Eden Blanchard and Fox Blanchard. Rudy's family is so grateful for the outpouring of love, support and prayers extended to Rudy and his family over the last year and half. A memorial service with Military Funeral Honors will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel Chapel with Reverend Shane K. Floyd presiding. The family will receive friends following the service in the reception center at Goldfinch Funeral Home.
