Dinah Sue Hucks Williams April 16,1932-March 8, 2024 Columbia - Dinah Williams, aged 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Generations in Chapin, SC., where she has resided for the last 2 years. She was born in Conway S.C., daughter of the late Bernice Hucks Flowers. She is predeceased by her husband M. David Williams, two sisters Ann Penelope DeMers, Linda Gaye Flowers and son Richard Marlowe Gore, Jr. Dinah grew up in the Aynor/Conway area and has fond memories of growing up in the low country. One of her favorite memories was visiting her grandparents farm in Aynor. She enjoyed playing with her cousins and exploring the farm. From watermelons, plums, blueberry bushes to pecan trees, the pies and cobblers made for some of her happiest days! As a single mother in the 1960's she had a tough time raising 2 boys. She graduated from nursing school at MUSC in Charleston, SC. and began her nursing career. While working double shifts as a nurse she always managed to make Christmas and birthdays very special. She was the first head nurse of Conway Hospital's original ICU. She was working at Charlotte Memorial Hospital on the oncology ward when she left nursing in 1975. After marrying Dave Williams she enjoyed many years of socializing, traveling, and golfing, always landing in Augusta for The Masters Golf Tournament. Dinah enjoyed meeting and talking with people, was an avid reader and loved word puzzles. Old western tv shows and movies were her passion. She loved to travel, and with her husband Dave, explored the US. They went cross country twice by motor coach spending several months exploring the states. She enjoyed boating even though she never learned to swim and she had a mischievous sense of humor that entertained those around her. Dinah had several hundred cook books and loved trying new recipes and perfecting old ones. Her grandchildren have fond memories of visiting her and grandpa Dave's mountain home in N.C. and riding ATV's around the countryside. They also loved Grandma Dinah's cooking. They were amazed by the fact that Grandma Dinah at 5'5" could drive their 40 ft. motor home through mountain roads! There were many great family times at their home on Lake Okeechobee and vacations spent together in Myrtle Beach. Surviving are her son Howard Walter Gore and daughter in laws' Terri, and Beth (wife of Richard Gore, Jr. predeceased). Grandchildren are Richard Gore III and wife Cameron, Danielle Bazemore, Brandon Bazemore and wife April, Tradd Bazemore and wife Jennifer. Great-Grandchildren are Richard Gore IV., Connar Bazemore, Ayden Bazemore, Skylar Bazemore, Landers Bazemore, Silas Bazemore, and nephew Davis DeMers. Funeral services will be held at Salem Baptist Church at 3:00PM Saturday, March 16, 2024 officiated by Rev. Randy Hilburn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30PM.
