Edeltraud “Trudy” Kight, age 88, of Myrtle Beach, passed away April 14, 2026 at Embrace Hospice House. She was born January 3, 1938, in Germany, the middle of 9 children born to the late Alfons & Hedwig Plotzner Kight. Her childhood was shaped by the realities of World War II, a time that brought deep loss to her family, including the disappearance and death of some of her siblings. Because of the struggles of war times, Trudy took the responsibility of caring for her siblings and making sure they were taken care of before her. This became how Trudy lived her life, always putting others before herself, trusting that what she gave in the love would be returned in ways she never trusted. In 1957, she married Donald Kight and became the woman affectionately known as Trudy Kight. She was a faithful wife and mother and being an Air Force family their life was one of movement and transition living in Hawaii, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Alaska, and Germany. Trudy took great pride in her serving her family. She was a dedicated housewife and stay-at-home mother. Trudy and Don shared a deep joy in life together. They loved dancing and country music, and hosting gatherings filled with laughter and connection. Her cooking and baking were unforgettable, making homemade German meals. Trudy was also incredibly gifted with her hands, creating all the children’s clothes and sewing them by hand whether it be prom dresses or Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed quilting and often pulled Don into her projects during quiet winter evenings at home. Besides her parents, she is preceded in husband, Donald Kight; son, Thomas Kight; two brothers and one sister; grandson, Jarrett Mason. Survivors include two sons, Rich (Stacy) , Donald (Sandra); one daughter, Sandra; grandchildren, Chris, Kelli, Austin, De Anna, Heidi, and Joshua; ggc, AJ, Mckenzie, Olivia, Jillian, Zander, Sean, Annie. Siblings, Hans, Helga, and Anna Marie. Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, April 17, 2026 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with burial to follow at Ocean Woods Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is serving the family.
