Edward "Ed" Charles Suggs, Jr.

Conway... Edward "Ed" Charles Suggs, Jr. passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026. Ed was born in Harrisburg, PA, to Sandra K. Suggs and the late Edward Charles Suggs, Sr. Raised in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Dover High School in Dover, PA, in 1981. He was a proud Eagle Scout and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Ed worked for Kay Jewelers for 25 years and was most recently employed by Horry County Schools as a Tech 3. On October 12, 1980, Edward earned the prestigious Eagle Scout Award. That achievement sparked a lifelong commitment to helping other young men reach the same goal. One of his greatest joys was seeing his son Christian earn his Eagle Scout Award in 2017. Over nearly 30 years as an adult volunteer, Ed served the Chicora District in many roles, including Cub Scout leader, Cubmaster of Pack 890, Assistant Scoutmaster, Roundtable Commissioner, Unit Commissioner, District Commissioner, Membership Chair, NESA/Alumni Chair, and, most recently, Advancement Chair. He was also a dedicated trainer, serving numerous training teams from BALOO to IOLS. For nearly 20 years, he was an instructor for the College of Commissioner Science and was scheduled to teach again in November 2026. Among his many accomplishments was recruiting the most youth in a single year and helping implement the Doctorate Degree of Commissioner Science for the Pee Dee Area Council. Through his decades of mentoring young men in Scouting, Ed earned many honors, including the Arrow of Light Award, Eagle Scout Award, Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow, Unit Leader Training Award, Cub Scouter Award, Cubmaster Award, Commissioner Arrowhead Award, Commissioner's Key, Commissioner Award of Excellence, Distinguished Commissioner Award, Doctorate Degree of Commissioner Science, Doctorate of Commissioner Science Knot Award, Wood Badge beads, W.D. Boyce Award, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, Alumni Award, Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, and 25-Year Veteran Award. "Ed's legacy will undoubtedly live on through the countless lives he touched in the Scouting community." Ed was an avid gun collector and hunter. He enjoyed shooting at the range with his father and his son, Edward III. Many cherished memories were made while hunting with his father—stories the family still laughs about today. After his first son was born, Ed created similar memories with him. He was proud to teach all of his children how to shoot and handle firearms safely. In his younger years, Ed and his father also bonded over their shared knowledge of collecting valuable antiques. He will be remembered as a loving son, father, grandfather, and brother. Ed loved returning to his hometown of York, PA, where he enjoyed reminiscing with family about cherished memories. He was blessed to come from a close-knit family that loved one another deeply, and those memories brought him great happiness. Graduating from Dover High School was one of his happiest memories; for those from Dover, it was a special, tight-knit community. He treasured family camping trips, beach vacations, and the many experiences his parents created for him and his siblings. Recreating those same memories with his own children was important to him. In 2023, Edward lost his best friend, his sister Sherrie "Baba." They shared an inseparable bond, and in Sherrie's eyes, her brother could do no wrong. Like his father, grandfather, uncles, cousins, and son Christian, Ed and Sherrie were both veterans. Following in the footsteps of family members who served their country was a true honor for him. The countless memories he shared with his family helped shape the man he became. Ed never wanted to cause harm to anyone; he simply wanted to love and be loved in return. His mother was his lifeline and greatest source of support—his best friend, confidant, mother, and protector. His baby sister, Tracee, was also a significant part of his life. He protected her and stepped in to help fill their father's role after their dad passed away. Together, they continued the family tradition of collecting and reselling. Some of their best times were spent reminiscing about the wonderful life their parents gave them and the Pennsylvania food they loved. Ed's greatest joys in life were his children, and he was deeply proud of them. His firstborn son, Edward Charles Suggs III, brought great joy to Ed and the entire family. Having a son named after both him and his father was a blessing from God, and the bond Ed and his father shared when "Little E" was born was truly special. Edward III and Ed shared many memories together, including trips to the shooting range, hunting, and scouting activities. Ed's second child, Ashley, stole his heart from the moment she was born. Their father-daughter bond remained one of the strongest relationships in his life. In recent months, Ed spent Sundays with Ashley and his precious grandchildren, which brought him tremendous joy. He knew he could always count on Ashley and her husband, Andrew, through thick and thin. The memories he created with them, and his grandchildren were among his greatest treasures, and Andrew was like a son to him, especially during times when Ed struggled with his health. In 1999, Ed was blessed again with his third child, Christian. Christian followed in his father's footsteps by becoming an Eagle Scout and later a veteran, and Ed could not have been prouder of him. They shared countless memories together riding bikes, attending scouting trips and Jamborees, visiting military memorials, and camping. Christian always wanted to make memories with his dad. His loss was devastating to Ed and the family, but Ed's grandchildren helped bring comfort and joy during that difficult time. Ed was predeceased by his father, Edward Charles Suggs, Sr.; one son, Christian Allan Suggs; and one sister, Sherrie L. Suggs. Survivors include one son, Edward Charles Suggs, III of Aynor; one daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Suggs (Andrew Levesque) of Conway; his mother, Sandra K. Suggs of Conway; three grandchildren, Kaylee Christian Levesque, Colton Richard Suggs, and Karlie Elizabeth Levesque; and one sister, Tracee Suggs Yanover (Craig) of Alexandria, VA. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
