G. Thomas Alford, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Thomas was born on April 12, 1936 in Conway, SC to the late Mattie Richardson Alford and Dewey Reaves Alford. Thomas was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was an active member and former Trustee of Jamestown Baptist Church. He served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corp. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Conway. Thomas was employed with Palmetto Chevrolet for 15 years before becoming the owner and operator of Fourth Avenue Auto Center and Alford's Towing Service for over 43 years. Thomas was a former Racecar Driver at the old Conway Raceway and Myrtle Beach Speedway and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved fishing, camping at Ocean Lakes, and his dogs, Butch, Max, and Repo. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Reed of Augusta, GA and Ellen Allen of Conway, SC and one brother LeGrand Alford also of Conway, SC. Thomas married the love of his life, Betty, on July 23, 1955. They were married 62 years, a match made in heaven and were devoted to each other for life. He is survived by his wife, Betty B. Alford; one son Thomas (Tommy) Alford (Wanda) and two daughters, Regina Alford and Kim Bell (Mike) all from Conway, SC. Seven grandchildren; Christopher Bell of Conway, SC; Jade Feagin Nobles (Brandon) of Fort Mill, SC; Lauren Howard (Andrew) of Conway, SC; Thomas Alford III of Morganton, NC, Blake Feagin (Emily) of Conway, SC; Bradley Bell (Tori) of Conway, SC and Johnathan Bell also of Conway, SC; three great-grandchildren; Hayden Long, Brenton Long, and Raylen Grace Martinez; one brother; Frankie Alford; and a special friend of 55 years, John Nichols. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Jamestown Baptist Church with Rev. Jamey Collins, Rev. Robbin King, and Pastor Jason Cook officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday evening at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
