Conway, SC...H. Oliver Hinson, age 87, loving husband of Johnella Hinson, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Hinson was born December 1, 1926 in Fair Bluff, NC, a son of the late Curtis and Cleora Morris Hinson. Mr. Hinson was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre and later was in the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion, Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America, and member of First Baptist Church of Conway where he was active in the Angler's Sunday School class. Mr. Hinson worked in the Insurance business for more than 30 years and was nationally recognized for his many achievements. After his retirement, he and his wife operated a campground for 10 years on Topsail Island, NC. Mr. Hinson was a founding member of the National WWII Memorial Foundation. He also participated in the inaugural Honor Flight from Horry County to Washington, DC. Mr. Hinson was an avid outdoorsman that loved fishing and camping. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and Papa. Mr. Hinson will be greatly missed in the community for his jokes and sense of humor. Mr.Hinson was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Surviving in addition to his wife are: three children; Joann Smith (Bruce) of Socastee, Wanda Hucks (Terry) of Myrtle Beach, Benny Hinson of Conway; four siblings, Marian Caudell (Mack) of Baldwin, GA, George Hinson (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC, Lydia Strickland of Fair Bluff, NC, Gayle Bullard (Larry) of Goldsboro, NC; six grandchildren, Brad Smith, Jennifer Smith, Jaret Hucks, Jeremy Smith, Mary Katherine Brown, Rebecca Hucks; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two caregivers, Samantha Tepoli and Shirll Holmes. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday from First Baptist Church of Conway with Rev. Robert Guffey and Rev. Rocky Taylor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
