Joe Skipper

Joseph "Joe" King Skipper, age 68, of Pee Dee Road South, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Skipper was born in Galivants Ferry, a son of the late Emory Lee and Getha Wallace Skipper. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Skipper was the fourth child in a family of eleven children and was brought up in a Christian home. He never missed a chance to gather with his loved ones and celebrate life with them. Mr. Skipper was a people lover and those who knew him knew that to be fact. He believed in visiting the sick and shut-ins and continued to do this until his health wouldn't allow it. He always loved to be where the crowd was gathered and the food was good. We, his family know that he is happy in heaven where the throngs are gathered to welcome him. He was a lifelong member of Pisgah United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, chairman of Evangelism, and was on the cemetery committee. Mr. Skipper was on the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee and the finance committee at the church. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men's Club and sang in the church choir. Mr. Skipper also sang in a gospel group with his wife and four siblings known as The Skipper Family. He also served on the Coastal Carolina University Higher Education Commission, the Department of Social Services and was a self-employed farmer. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence Wallace and Richard Hampton Skipper. Surviving are his wife Corlous Spivey Skipper of Galivants Ferry; one daughter JoAnn S. McCrackin and her husband Phillip of Galivants Ferry; Kenneth Skipper and his wife Tammy of Conway; five grandchildren, Mathew McCrackin, Walt McCrackin, Wyatt McCrackin, Kayla Skipper and Hailey Skipper; four brothers Bill Skipper and his wife Janice of Conway, Sam Skipper and his wife Geraldine, Payne Skipper and his wife Gayle all of Galivants Ferry and P.L. Skipper and his wife Virginia of Kansas City, KS; four sisters Grace Johnson and her husband Raleigh of Conway, Christine Lewis and her husband Gilbert, Mary Squires and her husband Vernon and Wanda Jenerette and her husband Rev. Johnny Jenerette all of Galivants Ferry; sister-in-law Wilmina Skipper of Conway and a large number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday from Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Henry Altman, Rev. Tom Rogers and Rev. Johnny Jenerette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
