LONGS…Mr. Oscar Edward Hardwick, Jr., age 80, of the Mt. Leon Community, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007 at his home following an illness. Mr. Hardwick was born May 15, 1927 in the Mt. Leon Community of Longs, SC a son of the late Rev. Oscar Edward Hardwick, Sr. and the late Mollie Viola Hughes Hardwick. Mr. Hardwick was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Mt. Leon Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and as chairman of the deacons for many years. Mr. Hardwick was a trustee of Mt. Leon Baptist Church and Mt. Leon Cemetery. He was also a member of the Mt. Leon Choir and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He retired from International Paper Company in 1989 after 37 years of service. Mr. Hardwick loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed working in his garden every year. He was predeceased by his wife: Ruby Dell Carter Hardwick; two brothers: Reno Hardwick and Horry Hardwick; and two sisters: Marie Hardwick Hardee and Inez Hardwick Donaldson. Survivors include his three children: Irma Jane Hardwick Allen and her husband Garland “Bud” Allen of Sevierville, TN, Russell Barry Hardwick and his wife Brenda Hammond Hardwick of Nichols, SC, and Tina Lynn Hardwick Worley and her husband Charles Ray Worley, Jr. of Tabor City, NC; four grandchildren: Eric Anthony Allen and his wife Kimberly Anne Kemner Allen of Sevierville, TN, Charles Ethan Worley and Adam Ray Worley both of Tabor City, NC, and Corey Alexander Hardwick of Nichols, SC; and two great grandchildren: Brennan Anthony Allen and Bailey Anne Allen both of Sevierville, TN. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from 6-8 PM at Ward Funeral Home in Loris. Funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from the Ward Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Gardner, Rev. Mark Stevens, and Rev. Josh Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Leon Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Mt. Leon Cemetery Fund, c/o Harry Carter, 623 Loop Circle, Longs, SC 29568.
