In Loving Memory of Laura M. Gonzalez With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Laura M. Gonzalez, who departed this life on May 4, 2026, after a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving daughters. Laura was a woman of unwavering faith, tremendous strength, and remarkable intelligence. A devoted servant of God, she was a longtime deacon of Central Baptist Church of Elizabeth. Her life was a testament to her deep and abiding trust in the Lord. Even in our grief, we stand firm in faith, comforted by the belief that she has been welcomed into the kingdom of heaven and lovingly embraced by our Heavenly Father. Born in Cuba in 1941, Laura graduated at the top of her class and pursued her passion for mathematics as a teacher. In March of 1968, she and her husband made the courageous decision to leave behind the life they knew, including family, friends, and familiarity, to escape communism and build a future filled with hope and opportunity for their three young daughters. Through tireless perseverance, unshakable determination, and boundless love, Laura created a new life and legacy rooted in strength and sacrifice. Throughout her life, Laura was the guiding light of her family. She led not with words alone, but through action, modeling excellence, integrity, resilience, and grace in all that she did. Her wisdom, strength, and love shaped generations and will continue to live on in all who knew her. Laura was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Agustin Gonzalez. She is survived by her devoted daughters: Elidia Gonzalez-Bolduc (David), Dulce Drapkin (Darren), and Yelena Horre (John); her cherished grandchildren: Rick Garcia, Nicole D’Andrea (Nicholas), Jessica Wolf (Kyle), Jennifer Drapkin-Smith (Amanda), John Horre (Josephine), Julianna Drapkin, and Jaclyn Horre; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Aiden D’Andrea, Augie Garcia, Austin D’Andrea, Salvatore Garcia, Ella Wolf, and Everett Wolf. Laura’s memory will forever be carried in our hearts. Her love, faith, and legacy will never be forgotten. In this time of mourning, we take solace in the words of Scripture: “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Hillcrest Cemetery.
