Margaret "Peggy" Mulloy

Margaret “Peggy” Mulloy, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. Born on May 23, 1941, in Utica, New York, Peggy was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and great-grand-aunt who touched countless lives with her quiet strength and generous spirit. A lifelong educator, Peggy dedicated more than 40 years to teaching first and second grade in the Utica City School District, the same community where she grew up. She later continued her passion for helping children by volunteering at Myrtle Beach Primary School in Horry County, South Carolina, where she patiently guided struggling readers and helped them discover the joy of reading. Peggy lived a life of deep faith. She was an active and generous parishioner at St. Michael’s Church in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where she gave freely of her time working in the church store and of her resources in support of her church. Known as a true giver, she approached every day with kindness, patience, loyalty, intelligence, and a soft-spoken care that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Family memories of Peggy are filled with joy and abundance. She loved rides in the convertible to Sylvan Beach, lively games of Pinochle, the music of the 1970’s, watching football with her sister Mary while enjoying a little beer, walking (sometimes up to eight miles a day), and working crossword puzzles. Christmas with Peggy was legendary – her nieces and nephews would receive a ridiculous plethora of gifts, enough to build towering piles and forts with the presents long before Christmas morning. For one of her great niece’s school projects, she and Mary took a “Flat Stanley” paper doll all over New York, photographing its adventures, then created a keepsake book of the journey and mailed it along with one-of-a-kind cookies for their niece’s whole class all the way to South Carolina. Birthdays were equally memorable; Peggy thought nothing of taking great nieces and nephews shopping with no spending limit and treating them to lunch. There was simply no “off” switch when it came to her generosity. Peggy delighted in all things Irish. Her home was filled with shamrocks and Irish knick-knacks, beautiful Tiffany lamps, and she could often be found wearing sweatshirts with an Irish theme, usually featuring a shamrock. Peggy was always there for everyone and never expected anything in return- a real angel on Earth. She was predeceased by her parents Jean and Thomas Mulloy, her brothers Tom and Brian, and her sisters Mary and Nancy Mulloy. Peggy is survived by her brother John “Pat” Mulloy and his wife, Kathleen Mary Ann Mulloy, her sister-in-law Beverly Mulloy, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great grand nieces, and great grand nephews who will forever cherish her memory. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Palmetto’s Memory Care Unit in Garden City, who cared for and loved Peggy with such kindness and compassion. Peggy’s gentle presence, steadfast faith, and lifelong commitment to teaching, serving, and loving others will be deeply missed and gratefully remembered. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, September 17, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
