Nancy Bullard Buckner (Nan) age 58 of Pawleys Island, SC went home on May 23, 2018 after battling cancer for almost 3 years. Nan was born in Robeson County, N.C. and was the baby of eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband of 36 years Eric Buckner, daughter Chrystan Taylor Grimshaw (Phillip), sister Sara B. Locklear “Mama Neil”, sister Judy Chavis, sister Peggy Clark (Kenny), brother James Earl Bullard (Sally) and brother Paul Reese “PR” Bullard (Sue). She was proceeded in death by her brother Michael Bullard (Deb) and her sister Barbara “Babs” Harris (Dell). Nan was raised on a small farm and attended kindergarten through 12th grade at the same school in a small community called Prospect. She graduated from Pembroke State University in education and became a teacher. Nan married her high school sweetheart and they spent over 41 years together. She had one child, a daughter that became her whole world and she became a second mother figure to many of Taylor’s friends. She devoted her life to her family and found her calling in life through teaching kindergarten, first and second grades in South Carolina, retiring after 32 years. She loved her students and showed them the love of Jesus, making each one feel special and important. Nan began her career at Myrtle Beach Primary School and ended her career at Seaside Elementary School. Many of her students stayed in touch with her and she was always getting hugs from them whenever they saw her out shopping or eating. After retiring, Nan enjoyed days at the beach and writing posts on Facebook which became an encouragement for many. She was able to connect with others by sharing her faith that was established as a young girl and strengthened by the journey of her sickness. She did not let the cancer define her, as she maintained her faith throughout to the end, providing a beautiful example of how we should approach each day, with a smile and peace that can only come from God. A Life Celebration Service will be held at Belin Methodist Church, Murrells Inlet, SC on May 26, 2018 at 11 AM and a reception will be held afterwards at the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
